JJ has been very
active in hockey from a very young age. He began taking skating
lessons at the age of 2 ½ and started to play ice hockey at the age
of 5. After working his way up through the Sylvania hockey system,
he played four years of varsity high school hockey for Sylvania
Southview. While at Southview, he lead the team in scoring both Jr
and Sr years and was nominated 2nd team all-NHC.
Following his high school career, he enrolled at The Ohio State
University. While at Ohio State, JJ was in charge of the
Intramural
Ice Hockey department and also worked as a hockey referee and
equipment manager. In the fall of 1997, joined the Men’s Club Ice
Hockey Team at Ohio State, and almost instantly took over every
aspect of the program when the coach left mid-season. Throughout
the ten years he was in charge of the OSU Club Hockey Team, the
program was completely rebuilt from the ground up. As a direct
result of JJ’s time, effort, hard work, dedication, and
coordination, the team was able to grow into a very successful ACHA
D-II powerhouse, with the team making two consecutive trips to the
National Tournament in his final two seasons. At the end of his
5-year playing career, JJ had became the all-time leading scorer in
OSU Club Hockey history. During his time coaching at Ohio State, JJ
served as a member of the American Collegiate Hockey Association
national ranking committee for four seasons and was the Southeast
Regional Tournament Director in 2007.
JJ currently works at
The Hockey Stop in Gahanna. He and his wife live in Blacklick and
have one daughter, Isabelle. |
